WBO and WBA Light-Flyweight Belts on the line

Unbeaten Puerto Rican Ivan Calderon will be hoping to add the WBA Light-Flyweight title to his WBO version when he takes on Mexican Giovanni Segura at the Mario Morales Coliseo in Puerto Rico on Saturday night.

Calderon 35, has 34 victories in his 35 contests and a single draw (which he avenged) but with only six knockouts on his record, the hard-hitting Segura may look to try and end the fight early as to not let Calderon find his rhythm for the full 12 rounds.

“Iron Boy” as Calderon is known, has held some sort of WBO Title for over seven years after reigning in the minimumweight division from 2003-2007 before moving up to challenge and beat Hugo Fidel Cazares to capture the WBO Light-Flyweight Title which he has held since.

Segura 28, has held his WBA Title since beating Juanito Rubillar in July 2009 and is the younger and fresher of the two, with 20 knockouts (10 in the first round) on his record from 26 fights with one loss and one draw.

The only loss, against Cesar Canchila in July 2008 was quickly put right eight months later with a devastating 4th round knockout, which meant that Segura has knocked out or stopped his last eight opponents, all inside of six rounds and looks a real danger to Calderon’s unblemished record.

“I come to win that belt and be double champion, I know I have the punch and the desire to defeat Calderon,” Said Segura.

“I’m going to press the action and beat him by knockout, I’ll be very calm and ready for when the bell rings,” added the WBA Champ.

Segura is trained by Antonio Margarito’s former coach Javier Capetillo, who was embroiled in the controversy at the Mosley v Margartio clash in which both Margarito and Capetillo were banned from being involved in boxing and therefore is not allowed in Segura’s corner.

Tickets are still available for the bout, call 787 792-5000 or visit ticketmaster. Prices are $25 to $200.

Calderon v Segura is live on Integrated Sports PPV on Saturday at 9pm
