Bika v Mendy ends in farce

Sakio Bika was disqaulified on Saturday night for hitting Frenchman Jean Paul Mendy while he was slumped on one knee in the IBF Super-Middleweight Title Eliminator on the Marquez v Diaz II undercard.

It looked as if Mendy couldn’t handle Bika’s power in the first round and was ready to take an eight count on one knee before Bika unleashed a heavy right hand and knocked the 36 year-old southpaw spark out for the best part of twenty seconds.

Bute: Next for Mendy?
It was a farcical end to a promising bout which looked as if Sakio Bika had control of in the early stages, but it was too early to tell if that would have been the case throughout.

It know remains to be seen whether Mendy will get his shot at the IBF Champ Lucian Bute or if a rematch with Bika will be his next port of call.

One thing is for sure though, referee Joe Cortez made the right call.
